New book claims Elon Musk gave Grimes’ baby name to child with secret lover
A new book claims that Elon Musk once took a baby name he picked with Grimes and, instead, gave it to a secret child he had with tech executive Shivon Zilis.
Yesterday (September 13), Business Insider interviewed writers Kate Conger and Ryan Mac to promote the book ‘Character Limit: How Elon Musk Destroyed Twitter’, which releases on September 17.
Conger and Mac brought up the information, which will be covered in the book. “Elon and Grimes had picked out a name for their daughter that they wanted to use,” Conger said. “That name ended up being used for one of Shivon Zilis’ twins with Elon.”
In September 2022, Grimes shared words that read like lyrics for a song – Conger claims that these were written after the ‘Miss Anthropocene’ artist had learned “about the name essentially being stolen from her.”
“The matter of a mother’s pain / is manifested in a name / My daughter is a Valkyrie, / But the forsaken cannot see,” the lyrics read.
“And then Shivon ended up changing that child’s name, which is how the existence of Shivon’s children came to light to the public, actually, because the name-change paperwork became public,” claims Conger. Mac adds that, previously, “Grimes did not know that Shivon was having kids with Elon.”

“Grimes was going to have her second child through a surrogate while Shivon was pregnant with these twins. The twins were born first,” Mac continues. “There was a boy and a girl, and the girl was given the name Valkyrie Alice Zilis, and Valkyrie was the name that Grimes and Elon had been discussing for their daughter.”
“The song that she posted the lyrics for was never made, but we were able to connect the dots and realize that it was about this really messy incident about the name. Shivon’s daughter ends up being called Azure, and Grimes’ daughter is Exa. So the name Valkyrie is effectively erased from all of Musk’s family for all intents and purposes.”
In July, Grimes shared her mother’s appeal to Musk for the children they share to be allowed to visit her 93-year-old mother – their great-grandmother – who is in end-of-life palliative care.
Musk and Grimes have three children together – X Æ A-12, a boy born in May 2020, Exa Dark Sideræl Musk, a daughter born via surrogate in December 2021. In late 2023, it was revealed they had a third child, Techno Mechanicus, known as Tau.
Last October, Grimes sued Musk over custody rights to their youngest child, Techno Mechanicus.
It had previously been thought that Musk and Grimes only had two children together until the existence of Techno Mechanicus, who is known as Tau for short, was revealed the month before in a biography of Musk written by Walter Isaacson.
