Nicki Minaj mocks laid off staff at Atlantic Records: “UPS is hiring”

Nicki Minaj has thrown shade at the employees of Atlantic Records that have been laid off this week, quipping that “UPS are hiring”.

On Thursday, Variety reported that an expected wave of departures of executives and staff at Atlantic Music Group had begun, with up to 170 people thought to have been affected. Warner Music CEO Robert Kyncl has called it a “new dynamic structure for the label group”.

Minaj, however, has apparently not been overwhelmed with sympathy for those laid off, writing on X on Thursday: “Dear fired executives & A&R’s: Don’t be mad, UPS is hiring. Also, feel free to submit your resumes for a job @ #HeavyOnIt,” referring to her own record label.

Earlier this week, Minaj announced that she is currently working on a brand new album, ‘Pink Friday 3’, scrapping the previously expected deluxe edition of ‘Pink Friday 2’.

That album had been scheduled for release on September 13, with up to seven new tracks, but after being delayed, it has now been axed altogether, with the rapper saying some of its songs will now work their way onto ‘Pink Friday 3’.

“The new music is just too good to be thrown away on a deluxe album,” she wrote on social media. “Last night, the songs I recorded were just way too iconic. I love you guys so much. You know that. I know you do. I’ll still give you something leading up to the announcement, so no worries.”

Minaj embarked on the UK and European leg of her ‘Pink Friday 2’ world tour earlier this year, with the stint including a show at The O2 in London. She later returned to the capital to headline Wireless Festival.

The artist is currently on the road in North America for her ‘Gag City Reloaded’ dates. You can see the full schedule and find any remaining tickets here.

In a four-star review of ‘Pink Friday 2’, NME wrote: “‘Pink Friday 2’ feels like a consolidation and refinement of everything Minaj can do – including dropping pop culture references that no other artist would think of. Thirteen years after ‘Pink Friday’, Nicki Minaj hasn’t lost her ability to catch us by surprise.”
