Noel Gallagher has designed the font for the new Man City kit

Noel Gallagher has joined forces with his beloved Manchester City football team, and designed the new font on their kit.

The Britpop legend and former Oasis star has been a longtime supporter of the team, and is often seen in attendance at their matches rooting for them. Now, it has been confirmed that the High Flying Birds frontman has collaborated with the team to design the fonts for their latest kit.

The new design was crafted by the singer, songwriter and guitarist, and will be worn by the Men’s First Team in every Champions League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup match in the 2024-25 campaign.

He came up with the font by writing out every name and number of the squad by hand, with the handwriting then being transferred onto the cup shorts for the coming season.

Not only will the new kit be worn by the players, but fans can also purchase their own shirt with the name and number of their favourite player on the back as part of a limited-edition PUMA Home kit.

“Our 2024/25 Home shirt is designed with Manchester in its fabric featuring threads of 0161 in the trim – a reference to the area code that gives a sense of belonging to all who call Manchester home,” reads a description on the team’s official website.

“Having been in the stands at Maine Road as a child and now a regular visitor to the Etihad and away matches with his family, Noel’s music as part of Oasis and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds also represents the best of Manchester and Manchester City.”

Although Gallagher has been vocal about his support for the team for years now and has a rich history with them, he did make headlines earlier this year after he was spotted refusing to do the Poznan in a sea of celebrating Man City fans.

It came as he attended the Man City vs Fulham game, which saw his beloved team win 4-0 and move them closer to the top of the Premier League table. However, unlike the huge swathe of Man City fans seen surrounding him in the footage, Gallagher refused to join in doing the move (where fans link arms, turn away from the pitch and begin bouncing).

After being called out by his brother and former Oasis bandmate Liam for his refusal to join in, Noel later shared a statement explaining that he didn’t take part as he was “still feeling the effects of a rather spectacular night out”.

In other Noel Gallagher news, the musician recently launched a new documentary series The Making Of Council Skies, which was directed by his daughter Anaïs.

It arrived in time to celebrate the first anniversary of the High Flying Birds’ fourth studio album. The LP was shared back in June 2023 and given a four-star review by NME, who praised it as being “brighter” than the rest of the NGHFB catalogue.

“How far ‘Council Skies’ will travel in the wider pop culture world remains to be seen, but it doesn’t change that it’s the brightest, most listenable collection of songs he’s pieced together in some time,” it read.
