Nukuluk share new video for ominous single ‘Hand on the Hilt’
Nukuluk have shared a new video for their ominous single ‘Hand on the Hilt’, directed by HMLTD‘s Henry Spychalski – take a look below.
The London experimental collective originally dropped the track in July, but today (August 22), they have now released its accompanying music video. More new music is to be expected soon from the band.
Speaking about the video, Nukuluk said it “reinterprets Pina Bausch’s seminal 1978 work, Café Müller, which we see as a kind of ballet for the dispossessed. We see the couple in the video, Angel and Daemon, going through the Sisyphean motions of romantic love, driven on by an invisible force—their respective attachment styles, traumas, and life experiences—personified by the figure of the Celestial Bureaucrat.
“As embodied archetypes that recur across time and space, they are condemned to repeat the actions in the video endlessly, like characters punished by the gods in a Greek tragedy. To open oneself up to love is to surrender to the possibility of this punishment and the immense suffering it brings, but there is beauty to be found in it.”

Nukuluk last released their EP ‘SUPERGLUE’ in 2023, which included singles ‘Covered in Gold’ and ‘I Just Wanna Luv U’.
They broke out on the scene with their debut EP ‘DISASTER POP’, which landed them a spot on the NME 100 for 2022. “Answering all the questions as to where south London’s Windmill scene could go next from spawning generational bands such as black midi, Goat Girl, Black Country, New Road and more, come experimental hip-hop/electronic collective Nukuluk, taking on those infamous spinny nights with an otherworldly sound,” we wrote.
“Caught in the tug and thrust of vocalists Syd and Monika, their debut EP ‘DISASTER POP’ ricochets like gas particles from ambient to chaotic hyper-pop and off-kilter rap verses that play like Danny Brown reading Virginia Woolf’s poetry. Battling mid-track from loud to quiet, it’s somehow both earthy and intergalactic, a surge of heat and energy ready to explode.”
