'Old School Runescape'.

Jagex has confirmed the latest Runescape remix album, with eleven Old School tracks given a drum ‘n’ bass reworking. Check out the first two songs below, exclusively on NME.

‘Runescape: Old School Runebreaks’ is hitting streaming services tomorrow (September 3) and will feature eleven Runescape anthems that have been lovingly remixed by London-based producer Pizza Hotline. These include ‘Garden’, ‘Sea Shanty 2’, ‘Autumn Voyage’, ‘Shine’ and ‘Background’.

The record will also be able to buy on double vinyl from Laced Records, who have recently worked with Jagex on the metal-inspired ‘RuneScape: Battleaxes and Ballads‘ album as well as releasing vinyl soundtracks from the Hitman, Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil and Final Fantasy franchises.

If you can’t wait until tomorrow, we’re sharing two of the tracks below. Check out the Aphex Twin-inspired ‘Shine’ and a complete reworking of the Old School Runescape ‘Main Theme’ below.

“I’m biased but I think ‘RuneBreaks’ is going to be among the best drum ‘n’ bass albmums of the year,” said a Jagex spokesperson. “I came across Pizza Hotline’s ‘Low Poly Breaks‘ videogame jungle mixes and immediately thought that RuneScape‘s sound would be perfect for an authentic Dnb remix. I dropped Pizza Hotline a follow and before I could message him, he hit me up telling me how much he loved RuneScape when he was younger. The rest just came from there.”

“Our goal really was just to give our players, and people who used to play, something nice to listen to that feels faithful to the original tunes,” they continued.

To create ‘Runescape: Old School Runebreaks’, Pizza Hotline was sent a selection of previous remix albums, including a lofi hip-hop collection. “I thought they did a superb job of bringing the old school sounds and motifs of Old School RuneScape up to modern production and style standards. I wanted to do just this but in my own style,” they tell NME.

“As Pizza Hotline, I’m known for making video game flavoured drum ‘n’ bass or jungle, specifically with a nostalgic feeling. This project was a challenge but ultimately a rewarding one, and I’m really happy with the result and hope fans of the game are too!”

The entire record will be available to stream tomorrow, while pre-orders for the vinyl will also go live, via Laced Records.

In other news, one Starfield player has created a total-conversion mod that turns Bethesda Game Studios’ role-playing game into a Star Wars title.
