Olivia Rodrigo Duets With Jewel on ‘You Were Meant For Me’ During Final MSG Show
Olivia Rodrigo closed out her epic four-night stand at New York’s Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night (April 10) by bringing out yet another surprise guest. The final show on the first North American run of Rodrigo’s GUTS tour found the singer sharing the stage with Jewel, who joined her for a run through the latter’s signature 1995 hit “You Were Meant For Me.”
Always happy to share how the work of her fellow artist’s has inspired her, Rodrigo told the crowd, “She is such an incredible songwriter. When I first started writing my songs, I would listen to her album Pieces of You before I went to bed. She’s incredible and it’s such an honor that she’s here with me tonight.”
Then Jewel, 49, joined Rodrigo, 21, on stage and they both strummed acoustic guitars as the pair took turns singing verses from the gentle ballad featured on Jewel’s breakthrough 1995 Pieces of You album, with the women joining forces on the choruses of the track that hit No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Rodrigo has shared the stage with a number of special guests during the New York run, including Noah Kahan for his “Stick Season” on Friday night’s opening MSG gig, preceded by Sheryl Crow at her March 9 Nashville show for a run through Crow’s “If It Makes You Happy.”
Tuesday night’s show was the final stop on the first North American leg of Rodrigo’s GUTS tour before the singer heads to Europe for a run that kicks off on April 30 in Dublin and runs through a June 22 stop in Lisbon, Portugal. She will be back on U.S. shores on July 19 for a show at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.
