Olivia Rodrigo Pokes Fun at Video Dubbing Her ‘That Mexican Girl That Be Crying’
True: Olivia Rodrigo has a Guts-themed cookie available on certain Crumbl shelves. False: She’s a Mexican artist whose last name is Rodriguez.
Need some context? A TikTok user named Dre recently went viral for his video review of the 21-year-old pop star’s custom pastry, during which he called her “Olivia Rodriguez” and asked his followers: “Y’all know that little Mexican girl that be singing all them sad songs?”
But in a hilarious TikTok of her own posted Wednesday (March 6), Rodrigo acknowledged the viral video by taste-testing her Guts treat while lip-syncing to Dre’s review. “Olivia Rodriquez, the li’l Mexican girl that be crying,” she mouths in the clip before taking a bite out of her purple jam-filled cookie. “Zero out of 10.”
For the record, though, Rodrigo — not Rodriguez — disagrees with his opinion. “idk i think its rlly good,” she wrote in her caption about the cookie, which was unveiled by the North American dessert chain last month in celebration of the “Drivers License” singer’s Guts World Tour.
It’s also worth noting that Rodrigo is not Mexican, but of Filipino descent on her father’s side. (Looking at you, Dre.)
The former Disney star’s tailor-made cookie has been popping up for one week at a time in Crumbl stores along the trail of her Guts World Tour, which kicked off Feb. 23 in Palm Springs, Calif. Since then, she’s played shows in Phoenix, three cities in Texas, New Orleans and Orlando, with her next performance slated for March 6 at Miami’s Kaseya Center.
After the trek concludes, the Guts cookie will be available at all Crumbl stores between Aug. 19 and 24.
