Olivia Rodrigo says Chappell Roan has offered her “so much advice” on dealing with “overwhelming” entertainment industry

Olivia Rodrigo has revealed that Chappell Roan has shared with her “so much advice” about navigating fame – see what the ‘Vampire’ singer had to say below.

Over the last handful of years, Olivia Rodrigo and Chappell Roan have witnessed meteoric rises to fame. Both dealing with similar experiences, the pair have struck up a friendship – and performed together several times – and take turns sharing advice with each other on how to deal with fame and the pressure they face from the entertainment industry.

Recently, Roan joined Rodrigo at the latter’s world premiere of her new ‘Guts’ concert film for Netflix. While attending the premiere event, Rodrigo was asked by Billboard about the advice they offer each other. The ‘Good 4 U’ singer was quick to acknowledge that she isn’t sure if she’s offered Roan much, but that Roan has been helpful in preserving her mental health.

Rodrigo said to Billboard: “She actually gives me so much advice on taking care of myself and being me in an industry that’s so overwhelming sometimes. I really appreciate her. If I give her any advice, I’m not so sure. But I get a lot from her.”

Roan’s feelings about fame have consistently made headlines over the last couple of months, with her recently comparing it to “an abusive ex-husband”. In an interview with The Face, the former NME Cover star vented about the normalisation of extreme fan behaviour including “stalking, talking shit online, [people who] won’t leave you alone, yelling at you in public.” She added: “I didn’t know it would feel this bad.”

Prior to that, she had taken to TikTok to share her thoughts on “weird” and “creepy” followers, calling out the “predatory behaviour” of so-called “superfans” that includes “nonconsensual physical and social interactions”.

Earlier this month, Rodrigo donated all of the profits from her first show in the Philippines to the nonprofit organisation Jhpiego which works “to ensure moms and babies receive quality health care” (per their website).

The three-time Grammy winner has been on the road since February, and is set to wrap up her tour after the current four-night stint in Sydney. Rodrigo has also announced new dates for her rescheduled Manchester shows, and they’re just after Glastonbury 2025.

Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘Guts’ scored a glowing five-star review, with Sophie Williams writing for NME: “‘Guts’ doesn’t just feel transitional in a musical sense. It marks the end of Rodrigo’s teenage years, a moment that has gravity given that she recently said in a statement that she felt like she grew “10 years” between the ages of 18 and 20. Here, she offers blunt self-analysis while reflecting on wider cultural ideas of performance and swallowing anger in order to comply with the wants and needs of others. It works as a display of real power, range and versatility – all of which Rodrigo possesses in abundance.”

As for Chappell Roan, the breakout singer’s September 2023 debut album ‘The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess’ released to wide acclaim. In a four-star reviewNME described it as “a display of Roan’s bold and brazen pen, where she places searing revelations alongside some deliciously cheeky choruses”.

It has since topped the UK album chart almost a year after its release – something Elton John congratulated her on.
