In a four-star review of ‘Everybody Needs A Hero’, NME wrote: “It’s an exploration of life as both an individual and in a relationship, looking at the tightrope you walk as a woman and how it can impact every aspect of your life.”
Speaking to NME earlier this year, Gartland described the record as being “bolder” and “more intentional” than its predecessor, 2021’s ‘Woman On The Internet’.
“Making this album took a lot longer than the first one did, and it was picked up and put down because of how busy I was last year, and I’m really proud of myself for pushing forward and for committing,” she explained.
“When I listen to it now, I have a real ‘We did it Joe’ feeling, we just got to the end, and I was able to be in control of it the whole way.”
