Orla Gartland announces second album ‘Everybody Needs A Hero’ with new single ‘The Hit’
Orla Gartland has announced her second studio album ‘Everybody Needs A Hero’ – listen to new single ‘The Hit’ below.
The Irish singer-songwriter is due to release the follow-up to 2021’s ‘Woman On The Internet’ on October 4 via her own label, New Friends. You can pre-order/pre-save it here.
Arriving today (July 24), ‘The Hit’ is a delicate track that “taps into the good and bad of feeling deep empathy for another, when you’re so close to somebody that you take on their struggles and start to become the same person”.
In the chorus, Gartland sings: “But it’s some kinda magic/ Some voodoo doll shit/ You get the cut and I feel the sting/ Burn alive or burn the bridge/ Oh, you get the punch and I feel the hit/ It’s like you gеt the punch and I feel the hit.”
She explained in a statement: “It’s a nice gesture because you’re admitting you care about that person so much that when they’re in pain you feel it too. But there’s a point that it can go too far and that’s just not healthy or sustainable.”

‘Everybody Needs A Hero’ will also feature the previously released singles ‘Little Chaos’, ‘Mine’ and ‘Kiss Ur Face Forever’. The forthcoming album delves into Gartland’s longterm relationship and “works out how to take up space in a postfeminist world”.
The artist explored the idea of a ‘hero’ with the full-length project, which was created between her London studio and Middle Farm Studios in Devon. Gartland worked with longtime collaborators Tom Stafford and Peter Miles in co-producing the LP.
Additionally, the singer will embark on her first-ever North American headline tour later this year. She’ll play 13 shows across the US and Canada, including performances at New York’s Bowery Ballroom and LA’s Troubadour. Find any remaining tickets here.
Gartland’s debut album ‘Woman On The Internet’ peaked at Number 10 in the UK, and Number Three in Ireland. In a three-star review of the record, NME said the songs “feel like the ambitious work of an artist broadening their scope”.
It added: “[…] ‘Woman On The Internet’ is a hard-won celebration of perseverance and artistic freedom, and of Gartland finally being able to frame her success in her own way.”
