‘Outer Range’: Amazon Prime Video users furious as service cancels series with unsolved mystery
Amazon Prime Video has cancelled the sci-fi Western series Outer Range, just two months after the release of the second season.
The series stars Josh Brolin as a Wyoming rancher who discovers a mysterious black void on his property, while also fighting to keep his land out of the hands of a rival family with whom he has a long-standing feud.
Imogen Poots, Lili Taylor, Tamara Podemski, Lewis Pullman, Tom Pelphrey, Noah Reid, Shaun Sipos, Isabel Arraiza, Olive Abercrombie and Will Patton also star.
Outer Range premiered on Amazon Prime Video in April 2022 and was picked up for a second season in October that year. The series also changed showrunners at that time, with Charles Murray taking over for Zev Borow.
Outer Range, one of most original and interesting shows in the last few has been cancelled after the 2nd season. It did reasonably well with the critics, and was a great show. Such a shame. pic.twitter.com/MHG8qYxeWO

Though not as popular as Prime Video shows like Fallout and Reacher, Outer Range performed reasonably well for the streamer. Its first season spent five weeks in the top 10 of the Nielsen Streaming Originals chart, which compiles viewing figures for streaming shows. The second season reached the top three of the same chart.
The decision to cancel the show means the season two finale, which arrived on the streaming service in May, will be the last ever episode of the series.
Invested fans have since taken to social media to voice their frustration, since the show’s central mystery surrounding the black void will now go unresolved.
“Am getting really tired of being invested in mysterious TV shows,” one person wrote, with another adding: “I am almost to the point where I am better off waiting to see if a show is renewed before even trying the first season.”

Ridiculous. Outer Range is one of a small handful of excellent shows – much better than so many of the Amazon originals, too. I hope Netflix or any other studio will pick it up. So disappointed

Gutted to hear Amazon has cancelled Outer Range after 2 seasons.
I have really enjoyed the show so far and wanted to know what the hole was all about. We'll likely never know.
Shame.

How dare @Amazon cancel Outer Range on that cliffhanger! Please, for the love of all things awesome, someone pick it up so we get some answers. #SaveOuterRange

Another branded the decision “ridiculous” as Outer Range was “one of a small handful of excellent shows” on Prime Video.
One person added: “Gutted to hear Amazon has cancelled Outer Range after 2 seasons. I have really enjoyed the show so far and wanted to know what the hole was all about. We’ll likely never know.”
“Outer Range, one of most original and interesting shows in the last few [years] has been cancelled after the 2nd season. It did reasonably well with the critics, and was a great show. Such a shame,” posted another.
In other news, Brolin recently revealed that he was disappointed not to be called back for Deadpool & Wolverine, having previously starred in the franchise’s second instalment.
