Owen Wilson plays zany golf coach in new TV series ‘Stick’

Owen Wilson in 'Stick'

The first teaser for Stick, a new comedy series in which Owen Wilson plays a golf coach, has arrived ahead of the show’s June 4 launch.

Wilson executive produced the Apple TV+ show, created by Jason Keller, and he stars as Pryce Cahill, an ex-professional golfer whose career was derailed prematurely two decades ago. After his marriage collapses and he gets fired from his job, he takes a troubled teenage golf prodigy, Santi Wheeler (Peter Dager), under his wing.

Apple TV+ said in February, “‘Stick’ is a heartfelt, feel-good comedy about a found family and their relationships set within the world of golf as it has never been shown before.”

The teaser begins with Wilson’s Cahill talking about golf over old footage of golfers, before he appears and it’s revealed that he’s encouraging a customer who’s looking at golf clubs at the sports store he works at. “It doesn’t matter if you’re a beginner or the number one player in the world, the course becomes a cathedral and you become baptised by a higher power,” he says, before the customer replies that his wife called him “too chunky” to play.

Joining Wilson and Dager in the cast are Marc Maron, Mariana Treviño, Lilli Kay and Judy Greer, while Timothy Olyphant and Ryan Kiera Armstrong will guest star alongside golfers Collin Morikawa, Keegan Bradley, Max Homa and Wyndham Clark. Broadcasters Jim Nantz and Trevor Immelman are also set to appear alongside Matt Scharff, Brad Dalke and Garrett Clark of golf YouTube channel Good Good as well as golf enthusiast Dan Rapaport.

Three episodes of the show will debut globally on Apple TV+ on June 3 with a new episode every Wednesday until July 23.

As well as working on Stick, Wilson is currently filming the comedy movie Rolling Loud and the action thriller Runner. The former, which also stars Matt Rife, Christine Ko and Henry Winkler, is set for release in 2026, while principal photography for the latter – in which Wilson is alongside Alan Ritchson, Rodrigo Santoro and Leila George – began in Australia this month.

In December, Wilson appeared at Rolling Loud Festival, which the movie is based around, to perform ‘FE!N’ alongside Travis Scott, too.
