Paramore’s Hayley Williams shares covers of Cardigans and Best Coast songs
Paramore’s Hayley Williams has shared several clips recorded during the production process of her 2021 album, ‘Flowers for Vases / Descansos’, including covers of songs by the Cardigans and Best Coast.
A slew of Instagram posts on Thursday (May 23) marked Hayley Williams’ return to her personal page, which had remained inactive since 2021. The Paramore singer shared clips of her working on ‘Flowers for Vases / Descansos’ songs recorded on her phone.
“[I] found more that i never posted way back when so just gettin em out of the camera roll and somewhere they can live forever,” she writes.
Aside from clips of her solo album songs, she talks about the choices behind the covers she shares, which includes an acoustic rendition of Audrey Hepburn’s ‘Moon River’. “Was there ever a sadder, sweeter song to sing to yourself?” she writes on its post.
For her Cardigans and Best Coast covers, however, she had more to say. Her cover of Best Coast’s ‘When I’m With You’, recorded in July 2020, was apparently done by request from the band’s frontwoman Bethany Cosentino, who had been collecting covers and tributes for her band’s first album, ‘Crazy for You’.
“I recorded it straight through my computer speakers like an asshole,” Williams wrote. “Bethany’s music has been so influential to so many new alt and dreamy garage rock bands and I love to give her flowers any time I can.”
For her cover of the Cardigans’ ‘Communication’, she reveals that the Swedish band’s 2003 album, Long Gone Before Daylight, is “a comfort album” for her. “on pandemic days when i had nothing to do but sing to myself and my dog, these songs held me tight.”
“that’s all i’ve got. unless i accidentally find more,” she concludes. Earlier this month, Williams tackled another cover – this time, with her band Paramore and in front of a massive 40,000-strong crowd, with Talking Heads’ ‘Burning Down the House’ while opening for Taylor Swift in Paris.
