‘Pokémon TCG Pocket’ on track to be bigger than ‘Go’
Pokémon TCG Pocket is currently on track to be even bigger than global megahit Pokémon Go.
The free-to-play mobile card collecting game Pokémon TCG Pocket was released worldwide October 30 and was downloaded over 10million times in its first weekend.
It’s now been reported that the game has been downloaded over 30million times in its first nine days. “T-t-t-thirty million?! How many packs have been opened, then?,” wrote developers on X. “On behalf of everyone working on the game and me, thank you for all your support! Seriously.”

By contrast, free-to-play AR game Pokémon Go racked up 50million downloads in its first 19 days when it was first launched in 2016, before it was followed by a number of official community day events, a world championship and several instances of police officers getting distracted by the game.
At the rate it’s picking up players, Pokémon TCG Pocket could soon overtake those download milestones. With a number of pay-to-play offerings as well, it could be potentially be a real money spinner compared to Pokémon Go as well.
The game only launched at the end of last month but Pokémon TCG Pocket has already launched a number of in-game events including a limited-time Meowth Wonder Pick update and two different battle events, offering players rare cards and special rewards.

Despite the name though, players can’t currently trade their cards with other players though Pokémon TCG Pocket has confirmed that feature will launch “soon”. Last week, a popular fan-theory about how to increase your chances of getting a rare card by examining the digital boosters for wrinkles was debunked while over 100,000 fans have joined the subreddit to discuss battling techniques and uncover secret missions.
In other news, the nominations for the 67th Grammy Awards have been announced with blockbuster titles like God Of War Ragnarök: Valhalla and Star Wars Outlaws competing in the Best Video Game score category.
