RAYE says she’s a “hardcore” ‘Mario’ fan
Even celebrities need their downtime, and singer RAYE uses hers to play video games like Mario Kart.
Speaking to the BBC, the BRIT Award-winner said that she’s been a “huge gamer” ever since she had a Nintendo DS when she was younger.
“I genuinely need to think about getting a 1-Up mushroom tattooed on my arm,” she explained. “I’m that hardcore, which I know is really sad, but I actually am obsessed.”
It seems gaming can be a good way for RAYE to take her mind off other matters. “I find games to just be like a very beautiful escape from your everyday life,” she said. “I’m really one of those people who loves to hyper-focus on something, and when I’m playing a game, nothing else matters in that moment.
“Almost every day, when I need to just turn off, I’m just playing a game, finding someone on tour who wants to play games with me. We have a console on the bus and we’ll gather around.”
As well as Mario, RAYE also loves Overcooked, a co-operative kitchen game where players must work to fulfil customer orders. The trick is that the kitchens are often split into different sections that only one character can access, making communication essential.
“It’s so good,” RAYE added. “And you’re basically playing as a chef in the kitchen and everyone’s like screaming at each other like ‘cut the carrots!’ I just think games offer a moment of togetherness and pause and joy.”
Recently, Chappell Roan saw a fan at a concert taking pictures of her on a DS and said: “Bitch is that a DS? You keep taking photos on your DS, you keep doing it.”
In other news, Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6 has been banned in Kuwait. While no official reason has been given, it’s likely because the game is set during the Gulf war, when Iraq invaded Kuwait.
