Red Velvet return with ‘Midsommar’-inspired music video for ‘Cosmic’
K-pop girl group Red Velvet have released their new mini-album ‘Cosmic’, which also commemorates the girl group’s tenth anniversary.
Red Velvet released ‘Cosmic’ today (June 24), alongside a music video for lead single of the same name. The clip tacks inspiration from the 2019 horror film Midsommar, as noted in the music video’s ending card, and follows the adventures of girl group as they join a rural community.
“Love is Cosmic / I’m riding on your rhythm / Through the solar system / Come with me / You and I, crossing the night / Cosmic love,” the quartet sing on the funky, disco-influenced dance-pop track.
In addition to its title track, the new record includes five new songs, namely ‘Sunflower’, ‘Last Drop’, ‘Love Arcade’, ‘Bubble’ and ‘Night Drive’. “Thanks to [‘Cosmic’s] melodies and harmonies, that are as vast as the universe, you’ll be able to feel the coolness of a summer night rather than a hot summer day,” said member Seulgi in an interview uploaded by SM Entertainment.
Ahead of the release of ‘Cosmic’ the girl group also announced their upcoming 2024 ‘Happiness: My Dear, ReVe1uv’ Asia tour. Kicking off with a two-night show in Seoul this August, Red Velvet will also perform in Bangkok, Jakarta, Manila and Macau.
In other K-pop news, popular Korean summer music festival Waterbomb has announced dates for its two-day event in Los Angeles later this year. Set to take place at the Dignity Health Sports Park this September, it will mark the first time the festival has landed in Los Angeles.
