red velvet irene seulgi sub-unit new mini-album may sm entertainment confirm

SM Entertainment has confirmed plans for Red Velvet sub-unit Irene & Seulgi to release a mini-album next month, marking their first new music release in five years.

According to Top Star News, the South Korean music label confirmed reports that Red Velvet’s Irene & Seulgi would be returning new music soon. The K-pop agency shared that the duo are currently gearing up to release a new mini-album sometime next month.

SM Entertainment previously revealed that the pair would be making a comeback together via an earnings release report for Q4 2024 published in February. At the time, the only release window the company confirmed for new Irene & Seulgi music was the second quarter of 2025.

Irene & Seulgi’s new mini-album will mark their first music release as a unit in nearly five years. The duo first debuted as a sub-unit of the band in 2020 with the release first mini-album ‘Monster’.

The announcement also comes only a month after Seulgi dropped with her sophomore solo album ‘Accidentally On Purpose’, featuring lead single ‘Baby, Not Baby’. Irene herself was the fourth and most recent member of the quintet to go solo, with the release of her first mini-album ‘Like A Flower’ in November.

It also comes about a week since the company announced the departure of bandmates Wendy and Yeri from its roster of artists, following the expiration of both their contracts. However, the label clarified that “as members of Red Velvet”, the two K-pop idols will still be “working with us for their group activities”.
