Richard Gere gave talkshow host Savannah Guthrie the middle finger while he was promoting his new TV series The Agency.

After showing a trailer for the drama on The Today Show yesterday (November 20), cameras cut back to the studio where Gere was caught showing his middle finger to Guthrie.

“You just did an obscene gesture on this family morning show!” she said to Gere, holding a stack of papers up to hide his hand. “I’m bleeping you!”

She then joked: “You know, Cher was on here doing an F-bomb yesterday so I don’t know what’s happening!.”

Gere explained that he made the gesture because that’s what his character did in the clip that was aired on the show before that moment was cut. “You didn’t show but that’s what I did in the piece!” Gere explained. “That’s what the clip was!”

Guthrie then said: “That’s what the clip was but we cut that part out. But then you did it live!”.

“I could see that but it didn’t make any sense without that,” Gere said, insisting that the move wasn’t intentional. “My hand did that, I have no control!”

Based on the French TV series called The BureauThe Agency is set in the London office of the CIA and follows a covert CIA agent played by Michael Fassbender who has to face reality after he’s forced to abandon his undercover life. The series also stars Jeffrey Wright, Katherine Waterston, Jodie Turner-Smith, Dominic West, Hugh Bonneville and more.

‘The Agency’ is the first TV series Gere has ever appeared in.

Meanwhile, Fassbender recently starred in Kneecap’s self titled biopic. Awarding the film five stars, NME described it as “unapologetically ballsy and brave.”

The review added: “Kneecap has no business being as good as it is – not only one of the standout films of 2024, but arguably one of the best music biopics of all time. So, with much thought and time to percolate, here’s your full analysis: Holy shit, fuck me, what a film.
