Comedian and actor Ricky Gervais is set to helm a new animated series about “a bunch of cats”, according to a new social media post.

Gervais posted an image on social media of the cast recording lines from the new show, which sees him reunite with the cast of his hit television show, After Life.

In the picture, the cast can be seen in a studio recording their lines at microphones. Those pictured from After Life included Kerry Godliman, David Earl, Tom Basden, Diane Morgan and Tony Way.

Others pictured included Him & Her actor Ricky Champ and Eastenders star Natalie Cassidy.

The title of the show has not yet been confirmed as has details of who will air the show and whether or not it will be completed with Netflix, who Gervais has worked with previously.

Gervais first revealed he was working on the project last year in response to an online question. “We started it, and it’s gonna take a long time ‘cos it’s animation. It won’t be finished until next year,” he said in the answer. He added: “I don’t think there’s anything like it. I did animation ‘cos I thought, ‘I’m getting old now’ and filming is a hard slog. I thought, ‘Animation, that’s easy.’ It’s not. I’ve been a fool.”

In other news, Gervais recently announced his new world tour and Netflix special: Mortality.

On the theme of the new show, Gervais said: “We’re all gonna die. May as well have a laugh about it. Mortality looks at the absurdities of life. And death. Bring it on.”

The comedian’s last Netflix special, Armageddon, was released on the streaming service on Christmas Day last year. In addition to winning a Golden Globe, the stand-up show also claimed the world record for the highest grossing comedy gig of all time.
