Ricky Gervais pays tribute to ‘After Life’ dog Brandy, who has died
Ricky Gervais has paid tribute to Antilly, the dog who played his companion Brandy in Netflix show After Life, following her passing on January 22, aged 13.
A press release said she “passed away peacefully at her home in Oxfordshire”. Antilly played Brandy in all three seasons of the show, in which Gervais’ character comes to terms with life after the death of his wife Lisa (Kerry Godliman). Brandy became such a popular part of the show that Gervais assured fans “the dog does not die” before each season.
The press release continued: “Anti was born in April 2011 in Herefordshire, at the home of Vislor Dog Training Centre. She became part of a four-legged family that had already appeared on the silver screen – both of Anti’s parents, also raised by Vislor trainers Travis and Ashley Foster, appeared together with Bane’s henchmen in Christopher Nolan’s $1bn blockbuster Batman: The Dark Knight Rises in 2012. Anti visited them on set when she was only 10 weeks old and has not looked back since”.
Antilly would also appear twice in George Clooney films, the first being The Midnight Sky and then The Boys In The Boat. She featured in the Tom Cruise sci-fi Edge of Tomorrow, as well as the TV shows Doc Martin and Britain’s Got More Talent.
Gervais commented on the death, saying: “This is such sad news. Anti was a beautiful soul. We hit it off straight away and she helped make After Life my favourite filming experience of all time. I’m so glad that I told her a hundred times a day that she was a very good girl”.
Recently, Gervais added more dates to his European tour, titled Mortality, as well as revealing some jokes he would have made had he been host of this year’s Golden Globes.
