Ricky Gervais responds to reports he will be appearing in a celebrity edition of ‘The Traitors’
Ricky Gervais has denied reports that he will be making an appearance in a celebrity edition of The Traitors.
Earlier this month, the BBC confirmed plans for a celebrity version of the show, which is due to air before the return of the regular series next year.
According to The Sun, Gervais was at the top of producers’ wish list for the forthcoming series. Other names in the frame included Jonathan Ross and Friends star Courteney Cox.
But the comedian and actor has now responded on X/Twitter, writing: “I love the show and I’m very flattered, but it won’t happen. I’m too busy and there’s no way they could afford me.”

Hosted by Claudia Winkleman, the reality series sees contestants compete for a prize fund worth up to £120,000 at a castle in the Scottish Highlands.
As they arrive at the castle, a small number are selected to be ‘Traitors’ who have to eliminate the ‘Faithful’ contestants to claim the prize. However, if the latter manage to work out and banish the deceitful contestants through daily roundtable meetings, they win the cash prize instead.
There have been two seasons of the show so far, with a third expected to land in 2025.
Season two saw winner Harry Clark take home £95,150 following a dramatic season finale. Clark, who shared the winnings with his family and friends, later revealed that he suffered from sleep deprivation due to the show’s relentless filming schedule.
Elsewhere, Gervais is set to helm a new animated series about “a bunch of cats”, reuniting him with the cast of his hit TV show After Life.
He also recently announced his new world tour and Netflix special, Mortality.
