Ricky Gervais trolls Will Smith with “bald” joke about Jaden’s Grammys outfit
Ricky Gervais has trolled Will Smith with a joke about son Jaden’s outfit for the Grammys, just under three years after Will slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars for similar comments.
Rapper and actor Jaden wore a black tuxedo alongside an eye-catching headpiece in the shape of a castle, a look which has received plenty of attention on social media, while at the ceremony alongside dad Will and sister Willow.
After historian and YouTuber Matt Sibson shared a photo of Jaden’s headgear on X (Twitter) with the caption, “And they say famous people are just attention seekers…” Gervais replied, “Maybe he’s bald like his mum.”
Will’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, shared in 2018 that she’d been diagnosed with alopecia, an autoimmune condition that commonly causes hair loss. At the Oscars in February 2022, comedian Rock made a joke comparing Jada to Demi Moore’s character, who wears a buzz cut, in G.I. Jane, leading Will to leave his seat, slap him, and then tell him to “Keep my wife’s name out your fucking mouth.”
Last night’s Grammys ceremony, in which Will led tributes to Quincy Jones, was his first since the Oscars incident. His appearance went down badly with viewers on social media, however, with some criticising the Grammys for giving him a platform.
Gervais was nominated for Best Comedy Album for Armageddon, losing out to Dave Chappelle’s The Dreamer. His quip about Jaden wasn’t his only comment on the Grammys last night, either. After a few of the speeches last night appeared to have political undertones, Gervais shared a photo of himself hosting the Golden Globes in 2020 alongside a quote from his speech that night, “You’re in no position to lecture the public about anything,” as he wrote, “They’re still not listening.”

Host Trevor Noah joked about the immigration policy of US President Donald Trump, as well as his decisions to impose tariffs on Canada, China and Mexico, while Alicia Keys and Shakira both spoke about the current state of the US, Lady Gaga reaffirmed her support for the transgender community, and Chappell Roan did the same while also calling out record labels and demanded “liveable wages” for artists.
Meanwhile, Jaden wasn’t the only Grammy attendee to have attention drawn to their outfit. Despite reports that he was uninvited, Kanye West showed up with his wife, Bianca Censori, and she removed her coat to reveal an almost entirely see-through mini-dress that revealed her nude figure.
