Rob Brydon has given an update on the final episode of Gavin & Stacey.

Brydon plays Stacey’s Uncle Bryn on the BBC comedy series, which announced it would air its final ever episode on Christmas Day this year.

However, months before the special episode was officially confirmed, the news that the series would be returning was leaked, which co-creator Ruth Jones called “really mean”.

Now, Brydon has weighed in on the highly-anticipated episode, which fans are hopeful will resolve the cliffhanger that ended 2019’s Christmas special.

Appearing on The One Show, the Welsh comedian and actor reflected on the news being leaked, Brydon called it “horrible”, adding: “That’s because you had to lie when people would ask you about it.”

He also shared how the cast, which includes James Corden, Larry Lamb and Joanna Page, haven’t even started shooting the episode yet, making the “lies” all the more difficult.

“It’s confusing because we haven’t filmed it yet. We’re not filming it until after the summer,” he shared.

It appears the new episode was as much of a surprise to Brydon as it was to the show’s fans, 18million of whom tuned in for the 2019 Christmas special, making it the most-viewed comedy in 17 years.

“They did it in total secrecy,” he shared. “None of us had a clue that they’d been together and working away at it.”

In other news, Corden reportedly helped entertain his fellow passengers after a flight he was on was forced to carry out an emergency landing.
