Robert De Niro surprises American football fans at game, lobbies for Kamala Harris

Robert De Niro has surprised American football fans at a game to campaign for Kamala Harris.

The Oscar-winning star appeared at the tailgate for the Philadelphia Eagles and Jacksonville Jaguars game at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field yesterday (November 3).

De Niro was seen interacting with fans, with the moment posted by the official NFL account on X (formerly Twitter).

The appearance was also captured by Michael Embrich, a former member of the Secretary of Veterans Affairs’ Advisory Committee on the Readjustment of Veterans, who shared a photo of De Niro alongside former Secretary of State John Kerry and fans.

“Honoured to join Robert De Niro, Secretary Kerry, and Rep. Chrissy Houlahan at the Eagles tailgate!” he wrote. “Let’s get out the vote for Kamala Harris! #GoBirds #Vote.”

De Niro has shown his support for Harris recently, and has long been outspoken against her Republican rival in the US presidential election this week, Donald Trump.

In September, he said that Trump “wants to destroy” America, telling a Q&A at New York Film Festival: “I’m worried. I see the things in Francis [Ford Coppola’s] film [Megalopolis] about that, the parallels and so on.

“To me, it’s not over until it’s over and we have to go at this wholeheartedly to beat the Republicans – those Republicans, they’re not real Republicans – and beat Trump. It’s that simple. We cannot have that type of person. Everybody has to get out there and vote.”

He added: “Just imagine Donald Trump directing this film. It’ll never go anywhere, from total craziness. He cannot do anything. He cannot hold anything together … He wants to destroy the country. And he could not do this movie. He could not do anything that has a structure.”

Harris and Trump are in the final days of campaigning for the election, with Lady GagaKaty Perry, Ricky MartinThe RootsJazmine Sullivan, DJ Cassidy and Adam Blackstone all set to perform at the Democratic nominee’s final rally in Philadelphia, while Oprah Winfrey, DJ Jazzy Jeff and Fat Joe are scheduled to speak.

Over the weekend, Harris made a surprise appearance on Saturday Night Live as she spoke to Maya Rudolph’s version of herself.

Bruce Springsteen recently appeared in a new ad for Harris’s campaign ‘Hopes and Dreams’, while other high-profile stars that have endorsed the vice president include Taylor Swift, the cast of the Avengers and former Republican governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
