Rockstar denies delay rumours for ‘Grand Theft Auto 6’
Rockstar has confirmed Grand Theft Auto 6 is still coming in 2025 after rumours of delays.
Late last year, Rockstar announced that Grand Theft Auto 6 would be released at some point in 2025 and shared a record-breaking trailer.
However since then, updates have been few and far between. In March, the studio scrapped remote working, with many devs saying they’d been “left in limbo” following the rule change.
The following month, Grand Theft Auto publisher Take-Two Interactive laid off hundreds of staff and cancelled a number of titles as part of a “cost reduction program” that they hoped would “identify efficiencies across its business and enhance the company’s margin profile, while still investing for growth”. Many fans assumed this would lead to GTA6 being delayed.
I see a lot of debate on the rumored GTA6 delay.
First: it's a rumor from an "insider". We all know how reliable that is these days.
Second: almost every AAA game gets delayed these days.
So saying "GTA6 getting delayed" is simply an educated guess that everyone can make! pic.twitter.com/XXk4KYOSnE— Boxenberger (@Boxenberger) March 23, 2024
Denying the reports of a delay, Take Two CEO Strauss Zelnick spoke with IGN and said: “We do feel highly confident that we’ll deliver [Grand Theft Auto 6] in fall of 2025.”
The first teaser trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 broke viewing records when it was first shared in December 2023 and has already inspired a number of recreations. For GTA6, Rockstar is taking players back to Vice City and is set to introduce the series’ first female protagonist, Lucia, with the story seemingly taking inspiration from Bonnie and Clyde.
It’s also been reported that the likes of ScHoolboy Q and T-Pain are involved with the game.
Responding to a fan question about playing Grand Theft Auto Online, T-Pain explained that he used to be an active member of the GTA role-playing server NoPixel before being asked to quit because of the conflict of interest.
“I used to be on NoPixel, then I started working on Grand Theft Auto 6, and [Rockstar] told me I couldn’t do role-play anymore because it kind of goes against [their rules],” he explained.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is due to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, but so far there has been no mention of a PC version of the game.
In other news, Epic Games has removed the recently-added Chains Of Hades weapon from Fortnite’s tournament mode, after Doja Cat complained about the weapon.
