Comedian Rosie Jones has deleted her X/Twitter account due to a number of “hurtful” comments.

Before deleting the account, Jones wrote the following message: “I’ve not felt a lot of joy from this social platform in a long time, so to come on and see I’m trending, yet again, is exhausting.

“I could say comedy is subjective but the truth is the comments are hurtful. I used to love Twitter but I don’t care for this centre of hate.”

She later confirmed on her Instagram account that she had deleted her X profile, saying: “My god do I feel good about it. Still on [Instagram], I just could not handle the cesspit of hate. I used to love twitter, but not what it had morphed into. It’s a no from me.”

The comedian previously responded to abuse from her TV appearances in February this year.

In December 2023, Jones, who has cerebral palsy, said that she was “lying low” after having received abuse following her appearance of The Big Fat Quiz of the Year. The comedian was a panellist on the year-end Channel 4 quiz on Boxing Day alongside Katherine Ryan, Mo Gilligan, Richard Ayoade, Mel Giedroyc and Kevin Bridges.

Speaking to The Guardian about the incident, Jones shared: “I’d be lying if I said it didn’t upset me, but luckily, I am surrounded by such a strong network of brilliant friends, family, colleagues who support me.”

“Do I need a thick skin? Yes, I bloody do. But I’m able to switch it off, I don’t look at social media when I’m on TV and I focus on the positives.”

Earlier this year, she fronted a documentary about the online abuse disabled people face on social media, but its title, Rosie Jones: Am I A R*****?, was the subject of widespread controversy.
