Russo Brothers reportedly in talks to direct next two ‘Avengers’ films
Joe and Anthony Russo are in talks to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe once more to direct the next two Avengers movies, according to reports.
The brothers previously helmed Captain America: The Winter Soldier in 2014, Captain America: Civil War in 2016, followed by Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame in 2019.
Sources speaking to The Hollywood Reporter say the brothers are in “early talks” to return to the MCU.
The fifth Avengers movie was previously titled: Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and was set to star Jonathan Majors, but following his conviction for assault and harassment in December, Marvel cut ties with the actor.
Majors previously played the role of Kang the Conqueror in 2023’s Ant-Man And The Wasp Quantumania and the Disney+ series Loki.
The sixth film in the series is Secret Wars, a story the Russo brothers have long been keen on developing.
NME has reached out to MCU and representatives of the Russo Brothers for comment.
Meanwhile, Scarlett Johansson has revealed the The Avengers cast discuss “terrible reviews” in a WhatsApp group together.
In a new interview with The New York Times, Johansson said that she’s in a WhatsApp group with her Marvel co-stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Jeremy Renner, Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo.
When asked if the cast have a group thread, Johansson said “Yes, that’s true” and then opened up briefly about the contents of the group.
“Everything goes on in there,” she explained. “I mean, really. If somebody’s gotten terrible reviews, that could be something that comes up.”
Speaking about the bond of the actors after starring in the franchise together, Johansson added: “We’ve been through an incredible experience over a decade plus of time. It was life-changing for all of us. If you text the chain, you can guarantee that within a few minutes, most people will respond, which is great.”
