Ryan Reynolds confirms Wrexham AFC player’s appearance in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’
Ryan Reynolds has confirmed a cameo appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine – caution: spoilers ahead.
Reynolds took to X (formerly Twitter) to reveal that a member of the Deadpool Corps in the new Marvel superhero film was played by a member of Wrexham AFC. The character, named Welshpool, is played by striker Paul Mullin.
Mullin’s face isn’t revealed in the film, but is seen sporting the Welsh flag on his chest. Reynolds also shared pictures of the two while filming, as well as concept art for the character’s costume.

Mullins’ cameo in the film should come as no surprise, seeing as Reynolds is an owner of the Wrexham AFC team alongside actor Rob McElhenney.
In other Deadpool-related news, the film has already broken the record for the biggest R-rated film opening of all time after taking $205million in North America, surpassing the record of the first Deadpool, and has taken a total of $438.3million globally.
The film has also earned the record for the eighth-largest filming opening of all time, as well as the biggest July opening of all time and biggest opening of 2024 so far.
Paul Bradshaw wrote in a three-star review of Deadpool & Wolverine for NME: “Despite the A-list distractions (no spoilers here), Deadpool & Wolverine is really all about Reynolds and Jackman. In fact, it’s really all about Reynolds – with Jackman doing a heroic job of playing the surly straight man trying to keep up with Reynolds’ sweary killer clown. The first two Deadpool films were funny and violent and original, but this one shows Marvel’s most gloriously inappropriate superhero at his very best and worst.”
In other Marvel news, while at Comic Con this past weekend, the company revealed that it will be revamping its next two Avengers films to focus on a different villain. Instead of Johnathan Majors’ Kang The Conquerer, the franchise will now focus on Victor Von Doom – aka Dr Doom – played by a returning Robert Downey Jr..
