‘Same Old Song,’ New No. 1: The Lumineers Top Alternative Airplay Chart

The Lumineers return to No. 1 on Billboard’s Alternative Airplay chart as “Same Old Song” rises a spot to the top of the March 15-dated tally.

“Same Old Song” is the duo’s sixth No. 1 and first since “Brightside,” which reigned for four weeks in 2021-22.

In between “Brightside” and “Same Old Song,” the band reached the chart with three entries, paced by the No. 4-peaking “Where We Are” in 2022.

The Lumineers first ruled Alternative Airplay with “Ho Hey,” the band’s breakthrough hit, in 2012. Their other No. 1s are “Ophelia” (2016), “Cleopatra” (2017) and “Gloria” (2019).

Concurrently, “Same Old Song” rules Adult Alternative Airplay for a fourth week. It’s the first song to command both Alternative Airplay and Adult Alternative Airplay (simultaneously or not) since Cage the Elephant’s “Rainbow,” which doubled up last September.

On the all-rock-format, audience-based Rock & Alternative Airplay chart, “Same Old Song” holds at its No. 3 best with 4.1 million audience impressions, up 4%, in the week ending March 6, according to Luminate. It’s The Lumineers’ highest placement since “Brightside” peaked at No. 2 in 2021.

“Same Old Song” appeared at No. 31 on the most recently published multimetric Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart (dated March 8, reflecting data Feb. 21-27). In addition to its radio airplay, the song earned 1.5 million official U.S. streams.

“Same Old Song” is the lead single from Automatic, The Lumineers’ fifth studio album. The set debuted at No. 2 on the Top Rock Albums, Top Alternative Albums and Americana/Folk Albums charts dated March 1, and has earned 48,000 equivalent album units to date.

All Billboard charts dated March 15 will update Tuesday, March 11, on Billboard.com.
