Shack announce first gig in over 10 years

Michael Head of Shack

Shack have announced their first gig in over a decade – check below for more details.

The Liverpudlian outfit, made up of Michael Head and his brother John on guitar, Peter Wilkinson on bass and Mick Hurst on drums, debuted in 1988 with ‘Zilch’. Follow-up ‘Waterpistol’ arrived several years later in 1995 after all the masters of the album were destroyed in a fire at the band’s then-record label.

They re-formed after a split, releasing ‘H.M.S Fable’ and ‘Here’s Tom With The Weather’, and later signed to Noel Gallagher’s Sour Mash label where they released ‘The Corner Of Miles and Gil’ in 2007.

Head has since shared music with Michael Head & the Red Elastic Band, whose albumDear Scott’ was released on The Coral‘s record label Modern Sky UK.

After teasing an announcement earlier today (February 26), the band – who last played together again at a charity event in 2010 – took to social media to announce their first gig back in over a decade.

They are set to play the Liverpool Olympia on Friday April 25. Tickets go on sale this Saturday (March 1) and you can find yours here.

Fans have reacted warmly to the news, with on X/Twitter user writing: “Superb … long time coming!”, while another added: “Already shouting for ‘Miles Apart’. Great news.”

Guitarist Nathaniel Laurence also shared he would be joining the band, writing: “Proud to say I’ll be performing as part of @Shack_Band when they reunite for their first gig in 15 years! Thanks so much to Mick, John & Wilko for making me feel so welcome.”
Back in 2017, Head spoke to Confidentials about playing the current state of gigging, saying: “I massively prefer it now because you can actually see the appreciation of people who are there to see you.
“I applaud the crowd because we’re all in it together and a lot of them have been there since day one and it’s more than just coming to see some fella they know from Kenny. A lot of them feel like they’re part of it, which they are in my eyes.”
