Shania Twain on what to expect from her “wow moment” Glastonbury 2024 legends slot
Shania Twain has spoken about what people can expect from her forthcoming legends slot at Glastonbury.
The country star is due to perform on the Pyramid Stage for what is often regarded as Glasto’s fourth headline set. Recent years have seen the likes of Yusuf/Cat Stevens, Diana Ross, Kylie Minogue, Barry Gibb and Lionel Richie take on the slot.
Speaking to Ken Bruce on the audio app Rayo, she said: “It’s a wow. A real wow moment in my career. It’s such a one of a kind.
“The closer it comes, the more everybody tells me about it in their own individual stories as well their own experiences. Everyone seems to be such a dedicated fan of the festival, it sounds as though it’s a very bonding experience for everybody. It’s an event where everybody bonds over whether it’s great weather or bad weather or whatever it is that’s happening so I think it’s more than just a music festival, it’s a community gathering, a stamp, an annual stamp that everyone experiences.”
Twain also spoke about what she plans to perform when she hits the stage this Sunday (June 30).
She added: “I plan on singing everything that everybody knows so there’s no guessing. It’s just all about the hits. It’s all about singing together and having fun. It’s all about the shoulder-to-shoulder experience, isn’t it? Everybody wants to just sing along and sway along. They want to feel and I want it to feel familiar to everyone.
“And this is what I love about the time of the Legends slot because in it’s still daytime and I can see everybody. I’ll be able to see all the way to the back. I’ll be able to see the scope, the view because I see the audience as a unit. I really feel like it’s an environment and all the energy is individual. And I love the people watching. I love to watch people.”
Commenting on whether she was coming prepared for any rain, Twain went on: “I absolutely am! I decided I would wear a cowboy hat, though in case it does rain. I prefer a cowboy hat to, like, a rain hat – so much more stylish than a plastic hat!”
Her appearance at the Worthy Farm bash was announced back in March.
At the time she said: “I feel so honoured and so excited about this one! Thinking about what to wear already and tell me, what should we sing together?! Let’s make history with this ultimate dream performance!!”
Twain released her sixth and most recent album, ‘Queen Of Me’, in February 2023. Speaking to NME the following month, the singer expressed her desire to take on Glastonbury‘s prestigious legends slot.
“It’s on my wish list – absolutely,” she said at the time. “So I’ll make sure I do that. It’s a legendary thing, I know, but it’s on my wish list.”
Glastonbury 2024 will take place from this Wednesday (June 26) at Worthy Farm in Pilton, Somerset.
Dua Lipa, Coldplay and SZA will headline the Pyramid Stage while other acts performing include LCD Soundsystem, Little Simz, Burna Boy, PJ Harvey, Cyndi Lauper, Michael Kiwanuka, Janelle Monae, Olivia Dean, Paloma Faith and Keane.
