‘Shaun Of The Dead’ is returning to cinemas for its 20th anniversary
Edgar Wright has announced that Shaun Of The Dead will receive a theatrical re-release to celebrate the zombie comedy’s 20th anniversary.
The director took to Instagram on Thursday (July 25) to share the news, confirming that the Simon Pegg and Nick Frost-led film, which has been remastered with Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision, will arrive in US cinemas in late August, and UK and Ireland cinemas in late September.
“Twenty years ago, the worldwide release of Shaun of the Dead changed my life forever,” Wright began the post. “Its reception since then has continued to be incredible, largely due to the passionate fans who have championed it with cricket bats aloft.
“Now, as we celebrate its bloody 20th anniversary with a brand-new Dolby Atmos and Vision remastered version, I’m beyond excited for everyone to experience it once again on the big screen—the way it was always meant to be seen: large, loud, and with quite a lot of red on it.
“Shaun Of The Dead will be back in US theatres in August and UK cinemas in September to celebrate its 20th anniversary.”
“Starting August 29, the re-release of Shaun of the Dead will begin with an exclusive limited engagement at Dolby Cinema at AMC theatres in the U.S. The zombie movie will be fully remastered with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos for an elevated experience that highlight subtle details, ultra vivid colours and immersive sound.”
He added: “Then Universal Pictures International will re-release Shaun of the Dead in cinemas in the U.K. and Ireland from 27th September, available in Dolby Cinema and Dolby Atmos.”
In a recent interview with NME at Glastonbury Festival, Wright and Pegg spoke about the renewed interest in Shaun of the Dead ahead of the film’s 20th anniversary.
“It’s kind of never really gone away since we made it,” said Pegg. “Whenever there was some crisis, that meme of me with the beer popped up. But it’s nice to get to 20 years and realise that people are still talking about it.”
Wright added: “Also, I think the main subject of conversation is people saying: ‘Oh, fuck! That was 20 years ago! Oh my God – I’m old! What have I done with my life?”
