Shwayze and Wiz Khalifa Fire It Up In Video For New Track ‘Smoke Too Soon’: Watch
California rapper and musical artist Shwayze is back with a new Cali reggae-inspired smokeout anthem and video.
Shwayze teams up with Wiz Khalifa to release the vibey “Smoke to Soon,” the fourth single off his upcoming album, Shwaycation, which drops Sept. 13 through Ineffable Records.
Filmed in the San Fernando Valley at locally beloved KH Cinnamon Donuts near Burbank, the hilarious “Smoked to Soon” clip imagines Shwayze and Khalifa as overly medicated purveyors of the doughy-delicacy with cameos from actor and artist Davionte “GaTa” Ganter, from the FX TV series Dave and Bryce Vine. In June, Vine was featured on Shwayze’s “Single for the Summer,” an endless summer sing-along that doubles as a breakup track and follows the success of Shwayze’s recent releases “Kick Back” and “I Pray,” featuring Ripe.
“Smoked to Soon” pays tribute to two of Los Angeles’ favorite guilty pleasures — mom-and-pop donut shops and bountiful potent weed. The Southland’s donut shops are part of the city’s melting pot culture — created by entrepreneurial new generations of immigrants from China, South Korea and most recently Vietnam and Cambodia. As for the pot, L.A. smokers have long benefitted from the city’s proximity to the state’s northern Emerald Triangle region and its accessibility thanks to Interstate 5.
The state is so blessed, it’s sometimes surprising Angelenos get so much done — “Smoke to Soon,” Shwayze says is a nod towards over-indulgence and the line smokers walk between weed as an enhancement tool versus weed as a coping mechanism. Thinking about his own relationships, Khalifa raps, “I don’t follow no safety net/ I just look at how they react/ Want to be in a place we at/ Just there she wants to take me back/ I’m too high you can’t make me mad.”
