Skrillex has vowed that he will be going independent following the release of his next album under Atlantic Records.

The DJ and producer took to his official X/Twitter page yesterday (November 18) and opened up about his decision to cut ties with his current label and explained why he feels like becoming an independent artist is his next move.

“I’ve never felt more inspired and in lockstep with my intentions as an artist. As im nearing completion of my next work and my final project for Atlantic records I can’t help but feel very existential about it all,” he began.

He added: “I’m thrilled to get this out and focus on more release in 25 as an ‘independent’ artist. But ‘independent’ is such a strange term because I still depend on my team as well as all the other creatives and executors to do what I do.”

In a separate tweet, Skrillex wrote: “But now I’m able to rethink/relook at how the structures are designed. I want to find ways to simplify decimating music and art. I see lots of artist in a constant panic.

“The industry is like politics, it’s designed to be almost impossible for I understand. I’ve seen so many artist get caught up in the illusion and delusion of the business. It’s a dangerous job to be a young artist.”

He added that he is “blessed and lucky” to have lived through what he has lived in his career and promised that he will continue to  “do my best as an artist and just make things that provoke beauty and emotion.”

Skrillex signed with Atlantic back in 2009 and released his debut EP ‘Gypsyhook’ that year. The following year, the DJ and producer released his second EP ‘My Name Is Skrillex’. He has released three albums with the imprint – 2014’s ‘Recess’, 2023’s ‘Quest For Fire’ and ‘Don’t Get Too Close‘.

At the time of writing, no further details have been revealed about what Skrillex’s next project will be.

Following the release of his albums, Skrillex teamed up with Fred Again.. and Four Tet to perform a last-minute sold-out show at Madison Square Garden and at the last minute headlined the second weekend of Coachella 2023 after Frank Ocean dropped out.
