Smallville star Tom Welling has been arrested for driving under the influence in California, with a mugshot of the actor being circulated online.

According to reports by TMZ, the actor was arrested in the car park of an Arby’s restaurant in Yreka, California just after midnight on Sunday (January 26).

Local police stopped him for allegedly driving under the influence, with Welling’s blood alcohol level reportedly at or above 0.08 per cent.

Welling is best known for playing the lead role of Clark Kent in the Superman prequel series Smallville, which aired from 2001-2011. He also featured in the third season of fantasy Lucifer, playing police lieutenant Marcus Pierce, as well as appearing in film Cheaper By The Dozen and its sequel.

He returned to the role of Clark Kent briefly in a crossover episode of Batwoman in 2019. He also reunited with Smallville co-star Michael Rosenbaum for the podcast Talkville, where the two re-watch one episode of the show each week and tell stories from the production alongside guests connected to the show.

Last year, Welling’s Smallville castmate Chris Gaulthier, who played Winslow Schott/Toyman, passed away aged 48 following a short illness. Rosenbaum, who played Lex Luthor in the show, shared a tribute saying he “had such a blast” working with him.

The Man Of Steel will soon be making a return to the big screen, with new actor David Corenswet taking the leads role in James Gunn’s forthcoming blockbuster Superman. Recently, fans of Henry Cavill’s portrayal of the character took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their anger at new footage from the film.

Elsewhere, James Gunn hit back at criticism of a flying sequence, denying that CGI was used on Corenswet’s face by remarking: “People’s faces can look different when you put a wide-angle lens up close”,
