Snoop Dogg to carry Olympic torch on final leg across France
It has been announced that Snoop Dogg will carry the Olympic torch during the last hours of its journey across France.
The ‘Gin and Juice’ rapper will serve as one of the final torchbearers of the Olympic flame ahead of the opening ceremony for the 2024 Olympics in Paris on Friday (July 26). Snoop will be carrying the torch throughout the streets of Saint-Denis, where the Stade de France Olympic stadium is located.
French rapper MC Solaar, French actress Laetitia Casta and retired Ukrainian pole vaulter Sergey Bubka will also join Snoop as torchbearers for the ceremony. From there, the flame will then head onto the Olympic cauldron in the Tuileries Gardens in central Paris, its final destination for the duration of the 2024 Olympics. The final who will close out the weeks-long Olympic relay journey has yet to be revealed.
The Olympic torch has been touring France since May and has been carried by various celebrities including Halle Berry and Formula One driver Charles Leclerc.
Snoop will be reporting for the games’ primetime show starting July 26 on NBC and Peacock. The rapper debuted as a correspondent alongside Kevin Hart during the 2021 Tokyo Olympics and went viral for his reaction to a horse he saw “crip-walking” during the Equestrian event.
“Oh the horse crip-walking, you see that? On the set! That’s gangster. This horse is off the chain, I gotta get this motherfucker in a video,” Snoop said in the 2021 viral video.
The rapper has since told Jimmy Fallon that he’ll be meeting the horse later this year: “I’m going to meet the horse in real life. He’s the returning champ. So I got to go meet him — you know what I’m saying? — and let him know I’m a big fan.”
Elsewhere, the legendary rapper recently ran a 200m race at the United States’ team trials for the 2024 Summer Olympics. The race was a mock trial, with Snoop joining the run for fun. For the mock race, Snoop Dogg was up against four-time Olympic medalist Ato Bolden and 200 meter specialist Wallace Spearmon.
In other news, Snoop recently opened up about his relationship with Dr. Dre, sharing that the latter has “always been a big brother” to him.
