‘Space Marine 2’ promises to change multiplayer update after player backlash

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 fans are unhappy with recent updates to the game’s multiplayer horde mode, and the developer is working on course correcting.

As reported by PCGamer, an update last week added a new difficulty option to the game’s multiplayer mode. Titled Lethality, it makes ammo crates only offer a limited number of refills, and it makes your armour regeneration worse if you’re too far away from your teammates, encouraging you to stick together.

However, since this is a game with different classes effective at different ranges, like snipers, and involves killing vast hordes of enemies, players aren’t taking these changes well.

“Why are they forcing players to stay together? How would that work for a team of assault, vanguard and sniper,” asked Round-Ant9031 on Reddit. “I guess it’s because they saw people complaining about players who rush and leave others behind. So, their logic is ‘let’s force people to stay together, and if you fall, it’s on you for rushing’,” replied Vodka_Flask_Genie.

This update has led to the game being review-bombed on Steam, meaning players are now leaving negative reviews because of the changes. Helldivers 2 was review bombed over a controversial move that would have forced players to have PSN accounts, too, but even after that was changed, people have complained about its balancing.

Responding to player complaints, publisher Focus Entertainment posted the following to its X/Twitter account: “Dear players, we closely read your feedback regarding the latest patch for #SpaceMarine2 and we’re actively working on another one including balancing fixes. It should release next week. Again, thank you for your support. For the Emperor.”

In other news, singer RAYE says she is a “hardcore” gamer who loves to relax on tour by playing Mario and Overcooked.
