Spiritbox react to their biggest ever headline show being filmed on a Nintendo 3DS
Spiritbox played their biggest ever headline show at London’s Alexandra Palace last week – and one fan captured the event on their Nintendo 3DS.
Ahead of the release of their second album ‘Tsunami Sea’ (out March 7), Spiritbox kicked off an ambitious European tour with their biggest ever headline gig at the 10,000-capacity Alexandra Palace last Thursday (February 13).
The show started with the live debut of ‘Tsunami Sea’s opening track ‘Fata Morgana’ while recent singles ‘Soft Spine’, ‘Perfect Soul’ and ‘No Love, Loss’ were also aired during the 90-minute gig alongside classic Spiritbox tracks.
Shortly after the gig, one fan shared footage of Spiritbox performing ‘The Fear Of fear’-cut ‘Cellar Door’, filmed using their Nintendo 3DS.

“I love how the DS is screaming in agony the whole way through,” replied a fan. “Love this potato quality,” said another. The janky video quickly racked up thousands of views and was even shared by Spiritbox’s vocalist Courtney LaPlante.
“We take pride in our balanced and clean tones thank you for capturing,” she wrote on X. “Need to add a Nintendo 3DS to my camera bag,” added the band’s photographer Alexander Bemis.

Speaking to NME in 2023, LaPlante said: “I think that we’ll always make heavy music. But it’s fun to know that our fans are accepting of whatever we make. They’re letting us figure ourselves out in real time. I like that they’re open-minded, but they’re also really honest. They don’t just lap up anything we do. They’re critical. I hope that we continue to attract really open-minded people.”
Last September, Chappell Roan gave one fan a shout out during her headline show for taking pictures using a Nintendo DS. “Bitch is that a DS? You keep taking photos on your DS, you keep doing it,” she encouraged.
More recently, Spiritbox’s Courtney LaPlante went viral after getting mistaken for fellow Best Metal Performance Grammy nominee Poppy on the red carpet of the event. “I am Poppy, and I am really happy to be here, nominated with Knocked Loose. I really hope we win,” she told the confused interviewer.
In other news, Avowed is out tomorrow (February 18) but critics have already been praising the new action role-playing game from Obsidian.
