‘Star Wars Outlaws’ director “disappointed” by lukewarm reviews
Star Wars Outlaws launched August 27, and it’s the first open-world Star Wars game in a long time. However, the game’s director is a little disappointed by the critic reviews.
Star Wars Outlaws has a 76 on review aggregator Metacritic, but video game review scores tend to be viewed differently to film reviews. Due to the time and monetary investment of each video game, with many costing more than £60 and taking dozens of horus to complete, many players see any score below four stars as bad. NME gave the game four stars.
Speaking to GamesRadar+, Star Wars Outlaws director Julian Gerighty said he’s “a little disappointed with the Metacritic; Of course, recognition from press and critics is very important to us, but players are really connecting with what we did.”
There were some issues with the game at launch, such as early access players having to start over to update to a new version or face game-breaking bugs, and the game is reportedly not selling very well – 55 per cent fewer copies have been sold than Star Wars Jedi: Survivor managed during its launch window.
The poor reception has also appears to have hit publisher Ubisoft’s stock, which is down 13.5 per cent.
Still, Gerighty said the team feels a “level of pride, happiness, and sense of accomplishment,” now that the game is done and the team “literally reached for the stars.” He added, “Honestly, it’s brought me so much joy to see the incredible images being captured and shared. And I think that’s proof positive that this is an experience like no other Star Wars experience before, that lets you step into this world and enjoy some virtual tourism.”
In other news, PlayStation’s new live-service hero-shooter, Concord, is being taken offline barely two weeks after it launched.
