The musician, who is best known for being part of the group Five Star with his siblings Denise, Lorraine, Doris, and Delroy Pearson, died on March 10. He had been on dialysis and had diabetes, according to The Mirror.

A statement from his family given to PA news agency said: “He was a gentleman to the very end – in every way and an amazing son, brother and uncle. May the memories and love he gave to us and the world be our greatest comfort. He will be deeply missed.”

Five Star were best known for their hit tracks including ‘System Addict’, ‘Can’t Wait Another Minute’, and ‘Rain Or Shine’. Their outfits and synchronised dance routines often drew comparisons to American music group The Jackson Five.

The group won a BRIT Award in 1987 for Best Group, beating the likes of Pet Shop Boys and Eurythmics.

“Five Star’s Luxury Of Life was the first album I ever listened too and I loved everything ’80s about this family, the music, the costumes, the dance routines,” said another fan. “Sincere condolences to his brother and sisters.”

Singer and songwriter Jaden Cornelius wrote on X: “Woke up to learn of my friends passing…… HE was one of the gentlest and lovely people I knew.. an awesome dancer with just a childlike zest for life…. you made a huge difference to my life and will be missed muchly!!!”

Meanwhile, author David P Perlmutter added: “Very sad to hear about the passing of Stedman Pearson of Five Star! I met him and the band years ago at a spa. They were so down to earth. RIP Stedman. No age at all. My age!”

Five Star secured six Top 10 hits, with ‘Rain Or Shine’ peaking at Number Two in the charts in 1986 – kept off the top spot by Madonna. The group of siblings were managed by their artist father, Buster Pearson.
