Stevie Nicks says “without Christine there is no chance of putting Fleetwood Mac back together”
Stevie Nicks has once again shed light on the possibility of a Fleetwood Mac reunion after Christine McVie‘s death.
After the untimely passing of Christine McVie in late November 2022 following a “short illness”, uncertainty had been cast on the future of Fleetwood Mac. In February last year, Mick Fleetwood said “the line in the sand has been drawn with the loss of Chris”, effectively ruling out a return for the band.
In October, Stevie Nicks echoed those sentiments, revealing that she thought “there’s no reason” to get the band back together without McVie. And now, Nicks has once again cemented her thoughts on the matter.
In a new chat with Mojo, Stevie Nicks emphatically shut down talks of a Fleetwood Mac reunion without McVie: “Without Christine, no can do. There is no chance of putting Fleetwood Mac back together in any way. Without her, it just couldn’t work.”
Her comments came after she had reflected on McVie’s final days, saying she had gotten a call from McVie’s family after the singer had suffered a stroke. Nicks had planned to rent a plane and fly down to visit McVie immediately, but was told not to, as her family didn’t know if Christine would survive that long. Nicks confirmed that McVie died the following day.
“I wanted to go there and sit on her bed and sing to her – which definitely would have made her pass away faster. But I needed to be with her. And I didn’t get to do that. So that was very hard for me. I didn’t get to say goodbye.”
Elsewhere in her chat with Mojo, Nicks shared other reasons why she doesn’t think a Fleetwood Mac reunion would work. While her relationship with Lindsey Buckingham has improved since the latter’s exit from the band, Nicks isn’t sure if Buckingham’s body can deal with another tour.
“Even if I thought I could work with Lindsey again, he’s had some health problems. It’s not for me to say, but I’m not sure if Lindsey could do the kind of touring that Fleetwood Mac does, where you go out for a year and half. It’s so demanding.” Despite recent health problems, Buckingham expressed interest in a possible reunion earlier this year, saying he would rejoin the line-up “in a heartbeat”.
In other news, Stevie Nicks most recently cancelled a solo show in Pennsylvania due to sickness. The rock icon’s next show is set to take place today (June 18) at the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids and then at Soldier Field in Chicago. From there, she will play a string of live dates in Europe, Ireland and the UK. Visit here to purchase any remaining North American Tickets and here for any UK, Europe and Ireland tickets.
Nicks will also notably headline London’s BST Hyde Park on July 12. The full line up for Nicks’ BST Hyde Park show was recently revealed. Back in April, it was confirmed that Brandi Carlile, Anna Calvi and Paris Paloma would be opening for Nicks in the capital.
