Sul Kyung-gu, Kim Hee-ae face off in thrilling teaser for Netflix K-drama ‘The Whirlwind’
Netflix has released the first teaser for its upcoming K-drama, The Whirlwind, starring Sul Kyung-gu and Kim Hee-ae. Read on for all you need to know about the plot, cast and premiere date of The Whirlwind.
What is the plot of The Whirlwind?
According to Netflix, The Whirlwind will follow “the colossal clash between the prime minister and the deputy prime minister” of South Korea, set against a “tumultuous political landscape”.
Who is in the cast of The Whirlwind?
The new Netflix K-drama will star Sul Kyung-gu of A Normal Family fame as Prime Minister Park Dong-ho. Notably, this will be the actor’s first starring role in a TV series. It’ll also be his third project for the streamer, following the films Kill Boksoon and Yaksha: Ruthless Operations.
Starring opposite Sul will be his fellow A Normal Family castmate Kim Hee-ae, who will play Deputy Prime Minister Jeong Su-jin. The Whirlwind will be Kim’s second starring role in a Netflix series, following 2023’s Queenmaker.
In addition, The Whirlwind will also mark the return of esteemed South Korean screenwriter Park Kyung-su, whose last project was the popular 2017 SBS K-drama series Whisper. He’s also known for his work on 2012’s The Chaser and 2014’s Punch, among other shows.
Is there a trailer for the new Netflix K-drama?
Netflix released the first teaser for The Whirlwind on May 30. It opens dramatically with Prime Minister Park Dong-ho admitting through voiceover that he has “assassinated the president”.
The clip the previews the politicking that will take place after the president’s death, with Prime Minister Park detailing his plans to take control of the situation, while asking someone for “just one month” so he can “turn the world upside down”.
We also briefly meet Deputy Prime Minister Jeong Su-jin, who is flanked by a massive team of men in suits. “In politics, power is superior to morals,” she says omniously.
How to watch The Whirlwind?
The Whirlwind, which will feature 12 episodes, will premiere June 28 exclusively on Netflix globally.
