Netflix have announced that Supacell will get a second season.

The superhero series – which focuses on five Black South Londoners who have all been granted powers – has garnered acclaim from fans and critics alike, leaving many wondering whether there’d be a second season.

Now, it’s been officially revealed that the TV show will continue on for another season. Speaking about the renewal, show creator Rapman said: “I can’t wait for the world to see Supacell, Season 2.

“For me season 1 was always an origin story,” he continued. “Season 2 is when the journey really begins. Season 1 was my Batman Begins, Season 2 is my Dark Knight.

The creator also told Netflix’s companion site Tudum that “I’ve always had it [mapped out] to Season 3,” adding: “I know how Season 2 ends. I’ve got stuff planned for this story. I’ve had this in my head for years, so I’m ready to go.”

In an interview with NME in June this year, Rapman revealed that the show was an “education”. “For families in America, Africa, or Europe who want to know what south London is like, watch Supacell,” he said. “Take away the powers, that’s south London.”

In the same interview, rapper Ghetts (who stars as villain Krazy) also spoke to NME on his decision to play the character, saying: “I’m a massive fan of DC and Marvel. I was a nerd when it came to that stuff. But I felt like no one from my background was represented in those worlds.

“It was important to have representation of myself and my background, but I also didn’t want it to look like it’s set in one country,” he continued. “How we’ve graded it, you don’t see no UK shows graded or lit like that. Most of our shows are grey and moody because that’s how London is. I wanted that feeling of darkness when it’s right but I also wanted to show that London is a vibe.”

In a separate interview last July, Ghetts opened up about his new acting career, telling NME: “It feels good to have success in another area where the door was probably opened by music.”

He went on to say that “God willing,” there would be more acting, adding: “It’s something that I enjoy and it’s something I want to do further.”
