Switch 2 game cartridges taste horrible on purpose: “If it enters your mouth, you’ll spit it out”

Nintendo has confirmed that the game cartridges for the Switch 2 will taste disgusting.

Nintendo officially confirmed the Switch 2 with a brief teaser-trailer earlier this year. At the start of April, the company hosted an hour-long Direct presentation that showcased the bigger, more powerful console and revealed a number of games that will be available when the Switch 2 launches on June 5.

Since then, Nintendo has announced the price as well as the various technical specifications for the Switch 2. Now the company has announced that the physical game cartridges will taste horrible.

Speaking to Gamespot, Nintendo’s Takuhiro Dohta said: “We don’t want anybody to be at risk of any unwanted consumption. We have indeed made it so that if it enters your mouth, you’ll spit it out.”

He went on to advise curious fans not to lick the Switch 2 game cartridges to see just how terrible they taste. “When the Nintendo Switch was being developed, I did lick it once, but never again. I can’t believe that other people are trying that.”

Nintendo used the bitter-tasting denatonium benzoate on games for the original Switch to stop them being eaten by animals or small children. In a FAQ, they confirmed the substance isn’t harmful to your health.

Following backlash to the cost of new Switch 2 games, Nintendo has explained it will be taking a “variable” approach to price. Mario Kart World will cost £74.99 when it launches alongside the Switch 2 while new 3D platformer Donkey Kong Bananza will cost £66.99 and a digital-only version of the game is priced at £58.99.

“We’ll look at each game, really look at the development that’s gone into the game, the breadth and depth of the gameplay, if you will, the durability over time and the repeatability of gameplay experiences,” explained Nintendo Of America’s President Doug Bowser. “Those are all factors, and there’s many more that go into consideration of what is the right price point for the game. So I think you can anticipate that there will be variable pricing, and we haven’t set a benchmark.”

In other news, Streamer Valkyrae has confirmed their cameo in A Minecraft Movie has been cut. Last year, she criticised Jason Momoa’s behaviour on the set of the film.
