Sydney Sweeney sports mullet and new muscles in first look at boxing biopic
Sydney Sweeney has shared photos of herself sporting a mullet and muscles for a new role as boxer Christy Martin in a forthcoming biopic.
The Euphoria star is set to appear as Martin in a currently untitled biopic directed by David Michôd, who previously helmed the Animal Kingdom movie.
Martin was a former professional boxer who competed from 1989-2012 and was crowned world champion in the super welterweight class in 2009.
In 2010, she survived a murder attempt by her husband, James Martin after he stabbed her multiple times and shot her at their Florida home. Two years later he was convicted of attempted second-degree murder and sentenced to 25 years in prison.
Posting on Instagram to show off her new look, Sweeney wrote: “Well the cat’s out of the bag thanks to some paps in bushes so here’s a little BTS from my film I’m working on right now.
“Over the past few months, I’ve been immersed in training to bring to life the story of an incredible woman – a true champion who fought battles both inside and outside the ring. Her journey is a testament to resilience, strength, and hope, and I’m honoured to step into her shoes to share her powerful story with you all. More to come soon.”
The film is also set to star Ben Foster as James Martin along with Merritt Weaver, Katy O’Brien and Ethan Embry.
Elsewhere, Sweeney recently opened up about the harassment she has faced from the paparazzi, saying her safety “is at risk” as a result of her home location being made public.
She said photographers recently swarmed her house in Florida and shouted at her family who were outside. Sweeney clarified that the photographers themselves weren’t so much the issue, but rather her location being revealed to the public via their photos.
