Sydney Sweeney told ‘SNL’ co-star she didn’t need an intimacy coordinator for sex sketch: “I’m on ‘Euphoria’”
Sydney Sweeney told her SNL cast mate Bowen Yang that she didn’t need an intimacy coordinator for their sex scene, because she’s used to far more explicit stuff on Euphoria.
On Tuesday’s episode The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, the gay comedian said the strangest experience he’s had on the long-running series over the last six years was pretending to be straight for an intimate scene with Sweeney.
“One of the weirdest was something I only have myself to blame for,” Yang said. “We wrote a sketch called ‘Bowen’s Straight’ where… I exerted my range, I played a heterosexual version of myself seducing Sydney Sweeney.”
Admitting that he was charmed by Sweeney off camera, he said: “She is such a good, committed actor that she made me believe she’s in love with me. And that was the craziest feeling.”
The sketch, which aired while Sweeney was hosting the show on March 2, sees the pair enjoy a brief fling after she discovers that Yang only “plays gay on the show because it’s a shortcut to laughs.”
The pair then have sex, but ultimately go their separate ways after Yang reveals that he can’t date her because he has to “keep up appearances with the whole gay thing,” adding, “It’s sort of my meal ticket.”
Yang explained that he spoke to Sweeney about their “love scene” prior to filming. “I was like, ‘Hey, if at any point you’re uncomfortable, we have an intimacy coordinator there. You can tap out at any time if you’re not feeling it, like, no problem. We just want you to feel safe and secure and all that,’” he recalled. “And then she touches my shoulder and goes, ‘Bowen, I’m on Euphoria.’”
Sweeney stars Cassie Howard on Sam Levinson’s Emmy award-winning drama, which is known for featuring explicit sexual content.
“Her parting shot as I left the room was, she goes, ‘And you’re living every gay man’s dream right now: you get to have sex with me,’” Yang said. “And I was like, oh, she knows that she has all men on lock. Like, it doesn’t matter if you’re gay or straight or anything in between, men just love her and she’s right.”
He added: “Yeah, I highly recommend hooking up with Sydney Sweeney if you’re a man.”
In a separate interview on Late Night With Seth Meyers, Yang jokes that the experience has stuck with him in the months since the sketch aired. “I think I understand why Austin Butler talked like Elvis for a while after the movie. So I think for a couple more weeks, I’m still straight. Ladies, get in there.”
Back in March, in an exclusive interview with NME, Sweeney addressed the intense levels of attention she receives online, saying: “There’s not anything I can do.”
When asked if it makes her want to stay off the internet, she replied: “Um, no, I think it’s important to be aware of everything and then use that information however I may well. But I’m just being me, that’s all.”
