Taylor Swift on pulling hilltop crowd of 50,000 outside of Munich Eras Tour show: “What a magical experience”
Taylor Swift has reflected on pulling a hilltop crowd of 50,000 outside of her Eras Tour in Munich, describing it as a “magical experience”.
Following two shows in the German city over the weekend, Swift, writing on her Instagram account, spoke about the huge crowds she drew outside of the stadium.
Thousands of Swifties who couldn’t get tickets to the second night of her tour in Munich gathered to listen to the gig outside the stadium, with local police estimating that 45,000-50,000 fans congregated on the hills outside the Olympiastadion.
During the show, Swift acknowledged how many extra people were outside the stadium. “We have people in a park outside the stadium, thousands of people listening from out there!” she said. “You’re so welcome and we’re going to spend all night trying to make it up to you.”
In her post later reflecting on what had happened, Swift wrote: “What a magical experience it was playing in Munich. The crowds of 74,000 people a night in the stadium were so passionate, and so generous to us. And I had no idea before I got to Munich that there’s a huge park behind the stadium, but around 50,000 people came out and listened to the show from the hillside both nights.
“I’ve been watching so many videos of the crowds out there fully participating in the show from afar, all that joy,” Swift continued. “I’m feeling really grateful for the unexpected memories this tour has created. We have 11 shows left on the European leg of the tour, kicking off *August* with 3 shows in Warsaw!”

Elsewhere on the European leg of her ongoing ‘Eras Tour’, Swift has given numerous deep cuts from her back catalogue their live debuts, including ‘Run’, ‘We Are Happy’ and ‘Happiness’ at the first Hamburg gig and ‘Superstar’ in Gelsenkirchen. Earlier on the tour, she gave ‘Sweeter Than Fiction’ its debut live outing, as well as ‘imgonnagetyouback’ and ‘The Albatross’.
The singer is due to return to London next month for five more sold-out concerts at Wembley Stadium, having played three dates at the venue in June. Support will once again come from Paramore.
In a five-star review of her UK ‘Eras Tour’ opener in Edinburgh, NME wrote: “Despite being an arena show, in a huge, cavernous venue, Swift and her fans have managed to cultivate a community.
“Strangers swap friendship bracelets, laugh and cry together, and embrace the tour’s in-jokes and lore (for example shouting “one, two, three, let’s go bitch” during ‘Delicate’). It’s the power of Swift, an artist who’s inspired not only the renaming of a Scottish Loch, but also countless fans to come out and embrace being a part of the Eras family.
“With the ‘Eras Tour’, then, Swift’s managed to craft a marvel of a show that comes with a beating heart.”
