Taylor Swift performed barefoot in Shonda Rhimes’ office before ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ sync
Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes has opened up about the moment Taylor Swift performed in her office.
In a special interview with People magazine, Rhymes recalled meeting the global superstar before she became famous, when she performed her 2008 hit ‘Love Story’.
The Bridgerton executive producer shared about the moment: “I remember she was an interesting artist. It’s so funny because back then, she showed up in my office with bare feet. She went off and played ‘Love Story’ and was like, ‘I really love your show’.”
“I had no idea who she was. I was like, ‘This kid’s adorable. Like, I love this song.’ The song was really good.”
Grey’s Anatomy executive producer Besty Beers weighed in on the moment: “We were lucky enough to meet these people sometimes near the beginning of their career. “I mean, Taylor Swift came into my office with a guitar… one of the loveliest people I’d ever met, and started playing this song.”
She added: “And Taylor Swift has done incredibly well.”
Rhymes, who is the founder of production company Shondaland, praised Swift’s music and success, saying: “Over the years, she’s produced so much music. Really produced so much music. And it is kind of the voice of what that generation is in people’s heads.”
She continued to talk about Swift, who has just released 31 original songs as part of her double album ‘The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology’: “You know what I mean? How they’re perpetually like the same emotional age somehow. And in a good way.”
Rhimes continued: “So I thought, yeah, her songs do become woven in because honestly, that’s what everybody’s listening to, but also they feel good and they work.”
Since Swift’s initial meeting with Rhimes, the singer has had her music featured in the medical drama, with her song ‘White Horse’ being heard in the fifth season.
Swift described the feature as “basically the best thing ever” according to People magazine, and has described how she is a fan of the show: “I love Grey’s Anatomy because I think it’s the best example of dry, sarcastic humour I’ve ever seen mixed with drama, because in life there’s humour and there’s drama.”
Elsewhere, Swift has shared the meaning behind the lyrics on her new album in a track-by-track Amazon commentary.
