The variations now mark the latest edition of ‘Tortured Poets Department’; ahead of the album’s release, Swift announced four variants of the album – each of which included a bonus track.
Just hours after releasing ‘The Tortured Poets Department’, Swift revealed that the record was actually a double album, and surprise released another 15 songs, which included the four previously mentioned bonus tracks.
‘The Tortured Poets Department’ scored a three-star review from NME upon its release, with Laura Molloy writing: “The pitfalls that mire her 11th studio album are all the more disappointing — she’s proven time and time again she can do better. To a Melbourne audience of her Eras Tour, Swift said that ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ came from a “need” to write. It’s just that maybe we didn’t need to hear it.”
Swift is currently on the European leg of her career-spanning ‘Eras’ tour, which is due to end this December.
Last month, NME gave Swift’s first Edinburgh show of the tour a glowing five-star review, writing: “Despite being an arena show, in a huge, cavernous venue, Swift and her fans have managed to cultivate a community. Strangers swap friendship bracelets, laugh and cry together, and embrace the tour’s in-jokes and lore (for example shouting “one, two, three, let’s go bitch” during ‘Delicate’).
“It’s the power of Swift, an artist who’s inspired not only the renaming of a Scottish Loch, but also countless fans to come out and embrace being a part of the Eras family. With The Eras Tour, then, Swift’s managed to craft a marvel of a show that comes with a beating heart.”
