The Kansas City Chiefs tight end is making his acting debut in FX series Grotesquerie and has described getting “sucked into” the “mystery thriller” genre in a new episode of his podcast that he hosts with his brother, New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce.
Kelce said he “hadn’t seen” anything of the show yet since his filming, but after seeing the trailer thought that the project was “really interesting”, adding that he “cannot wait to see everybody’s reaction [to] me being in a mystery thriller – kinda scary!”
His brother Jason then asked Travis about his upcoming part in the series, questioning: “Are you even alive?”
Travis then quipped: “Are any of us alive, Jason?” He added: “No. You’re… It might be a little of that…” he said, keeping details of the project close to his chest.
His brother added: “I don’t know what to expect” to which Travis replied: “Yeah, me neither.”
Grotesquerie premiered its first two episodes on September 25 at 10pm on FX in the US. Check out the full podcast with Travis here:
The series has been created by American Horror Story and Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story producer Ryan Murphy.
The show features stars of Murphy’s previous projects, including Niecy Nash-Betts, who first announced Kelce’s involvement on Instagram back in May.
Nash-Betts received an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress for her performance in Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story. In the video, Nash-Betts teased fans by saying: “Guys, guess who I’m working with on Grotesquerie?” before revealing the Kansas City Chiefs player.
Travis, who has made headlines outside of football news in recent months through his relationship with Swift, reposted the clip on his Instagram, writing: “Steppin’ into a new world with one of the legends!”
Also part of the cast is English actor best known for The Crown and Phantom Thread, Lesley Manville, as well as Courtney B. Vance.
Travis did appear on the small screen last March when he hosted Saturday Night Live, and returned in a later episode to make a cameo alongside Swift.
Back in 2020, the football player also appeared as a fictionalised version of himself in one episode of comedy TV series Moonbase 8.
